The mission of the Section of General Internal Medicine is to provide excellence in patient care, education and research. General Internal Medicine faculty provide comprehensive, patient-centered primary care to our patients in the outpatient setting while teaching the fundamentals of general internal medicine to the health care providers of the future.

Members of the Section of General Internal Medicine also play key roles in the care of patients living with HIV or hepatitis C, patients who use substances, patients pursuing medical weight management, and patients requiring palliative care. General Internal Medicine faculty are involved in numerous educational and research programs in areas such as clinical skills training, physician-patient communications, ambulatory medical education, and clinical trials.
