Welcome to the Temple University Urology Residency Program and the Fox Chase– Temple Urologic Institute.

We are extraordinarily proud of the program we have built and the training experience we offer. Our residency provides an unparalleled combination of surgical volume, clinical complexity, faculty mentorship, and institutional support—preparing our graduates to become exceptional surgeons, confident clinicians, and future leaders in urology.  

The Fox Chase–Temple Urologic Institute has established itself as one of the nation's premier urologic programs. In the 2026–2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings, our program was recognized as No. 11 nationally in Urology, making us the highest-ranked urology program in the Philadelphia region. This recognition reflects the extraordinary clinical expertise, academic productivity, and surgical excellence that define our department.

As one of Temple Health's flagship clinical and academic programs, Urology benefits from tremendous institutional support and continued investment in our faculty, infrastructure, research, and educational mission. Our unique integration of Temple University Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center provides residents with an exceptional training environment, combining the strengths of a major academic medical center with an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Few programs can match our case volume, breadth, and diversity of surgical training. Our residents gain extensive hands-on experience in open surgery, laparoscopy, and robotics, covering the full spectrum of urology:

• Reconstructive and Traumatic Urology  
• Prosthetic Urology  
• Endourology & Stone Disease  
• Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery / Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery  
• Andrology & Male Infertility  
• Transgender Reconstructive Surgery & Care  
• Neurourology & Voiding Dysfunction  
• Pediatric Urology  

Our residents train at five distinct, high-volume clinical sites, providing a remarkable combination of academic, tertiary, and community-based surgical experiences:  

• Temple University Hospital – High-volume exposure to reconstructive urology, oncology, general urology, female pelvic medicine, neurourology, and complex urologic trauma.
• Fox Chase Cancer Center – A nationally renowned, NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center offering advanced robotic, open, and multidisciplinary urologic cancer care. 
• Temple University Hospital – Jeanes Campus – Focused training in prostate enucleation, prosthetic urology, endourology, and urologic oncology. 
• Temple Health – Chestnut Hill Hospital – Immersive exposure to Aquablation, advanced robotics, endourology, and a broad spectrum of general and subspecialty urologic procedures. 
• St. Christopher's Hospital for Children – Comprehensive pediatric urology training encompassing congenital and acquired pediatric urologic conditions.

The breadth and complexity of these clinical experiences ensure that our residents graduate with the technical skills, clinical judgment, and confidence necessary to manage the full spectrum of urologic disease. Our goal is not simply to expose residents to complex surgery, but to give them the experience, autonomy, and mentorship necessary to master it.  

Institutional Support & Unprecedented Program Growth

Temple Urology has experienced an extraordinary period of growth, reflecting the strength of our faculty, the expansion of our clinical enterprise, and the institution's deep commitment to our mission.  

Our residency has grown from a relatively small training program into one of the largest urology residencies in the country. Just over a decade ago, our program accepted only two residents annually. Following successive expansions, we are proud to announce that we now accept five residents per year, placing Temple among a select group of large academic urology training programs nationally.

This milestone is a direct reflection of our exceptional growth in clinical and surgical volume, the recruitment of nationally recognized faculty, and the continued development of our educational infrastructure. Importantly, our expansion has been driven by the opportunities available to our trainees, ensuring that our residents continue to benefit from extraordinary operative experiences, progressive responsibility, and meaningful faculty mentorship.

Our national recognition, growing clinical footprint, and substantial institutional investment reflect a department that is not simply maintaining excellence, but actively building for the future. Residents joining Temple today have the opportunity to train within a program experiencing tremendous momentum and to help shape its next chapter.

Our residents work alongside nationally and internationally recognized faculty who are leaders in surgical innovation, research, professional societies, and academic medicine. Our department maintains a robust research enterprise, with active participation in clinical trials, scientific discovery, and publications across virtually every urologic subspecialty.

Our connection to these institutions is personal. One of us completed residency training at Temple, while the other completed fellowship training at Fox Chase. We understand firsthand the value of the educational traditions that have shaped these institutions, and we share a commitment to preserving those strengths while continuously elevating the training experience for the next generation.
