Residency Program

Program Mission Statement

The purpose of Temple's Dermatology Residency program is to provide our trainees with outstanding clinical training and educational experiences in order to produce the highest quality of physicians in the field of Dermatology. The educational program strongly focuses on both academic/research and community care. We provide the residents with 10 hours of didactic time a week and our department has half a dozen ongoing clinical trials. Aligning with the mission of our Sponsoring Institution, we serve the diverse population in North Philadelphia. Many of the patients are a part of an underserved community utilizing state-funded insurance. We take pride in being able to serve our community with the highest level of care.

Program Aims

The program aims to train residents to be the best dermatologist they can be, so that they will give outstanding care to patients.  Our specific goals are to:

  1. Provide an educational environment that fosters: acquisition and retention of new knowledge, appreciation of the limits of present knowledge, consideration and discussion of controversies within the specialty, and formulation of hypotheses subject to scientific testing.
  2. Provide trainees with the practical experience in a variety of clinical settings that will enable them to deliver excellent specialized care to patients with diseases of the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes
  3. Provide mentorship and guidance to allow trainees to become future leaders in either academic dermatology or practice.
