Recruitment and Retention

The goals of this subcommittee serve to increase the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minorities in the Department of Surgery. We are particularly interested in diversifying the department along racial, ethnic, religious, and sexual identity lines in the following areas:

  • Faculty/ Residency applicant pool
  • Faculty/ Residency interviewee pool
  • Residency positions matched
  • Faculty positions offered
  • Faculty positions accepted
  • Faculty leadership

To this end we aim to take a critical look at the recruitment and retention practices currently in place. It is our hope to strengthen those practices that are proven to positively reinforce a diverse workforce while simultaneously dismantling those that consistently exclude marginalized groups. Additionally, we work to increase our presence in spaces and collaborative efforts with groups known to foster the progression and success of minority medical students and professionals.
