Research

Our department has a Resident Research Committee, led by Dr Terry Heiman-Patterson. She has created a set of milestones, for each class, with the goal of presenting a completed project at the Annual Matthew T. Moore Neurology Conference which takes place in June. There is a formal educational initiative to provide residents didactics on how to perform research, and she had regular meetings with the residents to provide feedback.

All residents are expected to complete a resident research project over the course of their residency. Additionally, they also participate in a yearly Quality Improvement/Patient Safety Program, often in groups, and these projects are presented during a Grand Rounds session. Our Director of Quality Improvement for the department, Dr Zhou, provides  didactics throughout the year as well as mentorship for this projects.

Our residents are encouraged to participate in research and often present this research at local or national meetings.
