Cardiothoracic Fellowship Program

The cardiothoracic fellowship program is centered around the clinical service at the Temple University Health System located in the Philadelphia area.

Temple University Hospital is top in the country in lung transplants and pulmonary endarterectomies. As one of the main hospitals in the Philadelphia area, the Temple Cardiothoracic (CT) division is composed of 8 CT anesthesiologists, all fellow-trained and diplomates in transesophageal echocardiography. This talented staff supports our one-year fellowship program offering first class training to our single fellow in more than 700 procedures which include on-and-off pump CABGs, valve replacement and/or repair, ventricular assisted devices, TAVRs, pulmonary endarterectomies, and other percutaneous procedures in the cath lab.

The cardiothoracic fellowship program although centered on the clinical service at Temple University Hospital, also encompasses experiences at Fox Chase Cancer Center (advanced thoracic oncology), and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (pediatric cardiac) providing a mix of complicated patients and highly involved procedures.

Our fellow participates in a mix of complex and more straightforward procedures during 7 months of the year, with one month dedicated to echocardiography along with cardiologists and participating in the fellows’ echo conferences and cases, one month of thoracic cases and 8 weeks of elective rotations including: pediatric cardiac anesthesia, perfusion, electrophysiology, community hospital rotation all directed to graduate a highly skill cardiac anesthesiologist.
