News January 26, 2016

To ensure continuity of strong leadership at Temple Health's flagship teaching hospital Verdi J. DiSesa, MD, MBA, will become President and CEO of Temple University Hospital (TUH) upon the departure of John N. Kastanis on March 1.

As Dr. DiSesa assumes his new role at TUH, he will maintain his duties as Chief Operating Officer of Temple University Health System and Senior Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, as he continues to oversee the strategic direction of quality, safe and cost-effective clinical services of the Health System and support our comprehensive education and training of the next generation of physicians.

"Dr. DiSesa's extensive qualifications and experience in local, national, and international healthcare settings, as well as his demonstrated leadership within Temple's healthcare enterprise – including an effective transitional role as Interim President & CEO of Fox Chase Cancer Center in 2013 – makes him especially well-positioned to lead TUH to the necessary next level of competitiveness and financial sustainability," said Larry R. Kaiser, MD, FACS, President/CEO and Dean of Temple's healthcare enterprise.

Over the next several weeks, Dr. DiSesa will work with Mr. Kastanis to assure a smooth leadership transition while continuing to optimize clinical effectiveness and efficiency, enhance patient throughput, and solidify Temple's position as a leader in the evolving healthcare environment.
