The Center for Asian Health has made significant contributions to understanding tobacco use and advancing its prevention and cessation among Asian Americans. Since its establishment in 2000, tobacco research has been a cornerstone of the Center's scientific endeavors. This work has positively impacted communities in the Eastern U.S. region, demonstrating the potential to reverse smoking trends among chronic smokers and prevent youth smoking initiation through culturally tailored, evidence-based strategies.

The Center's tobacco research spans adolescents, adults, and environmental smoke, employing diverse prevention and intervention approaches. Key efforts include epidemiologic studies, youth smoking prevention and cessation initiatives, adult-focused strategies integrating clinical, motivational, and pharmacological methods, secondhand smoke prevention for families and communities, and innovative health messaging through drama and mHealth technology to reach broad, multi-generational audiences.
