Admissions - Master in Urban BioethicsThe MA Urban Bioethics program admits new students for Fall, Spring, and Summer II terms. Please adhere to the application deadlines in place for the Graduate Bulletin.

MA Program Applicants

Apply online to the MA in Urban Bioethics

Shortly after you submit the application with your demographic information, a checklist of supplemental items will be created. All MA applicants are required to submit:

  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended. Electronic transcripts are preferred and can be sent to maub@temple.edu to the attention of Catherine Averill.
  • Paper transcripts can be addressed to:

  • 2-3 letters of recommendation from college or university faculty members familiar with your academic performance and/or from professional supervisors familiar with your professional experience, accomplishments, and potential for success in a graduate program
  • A current résumé or CV
  • A statement of goals that addresses how you see the MA in Urban Bioethics as integral to your current education and future career goals. We ask that you speak to your experience in one of the following competencies: community engagement, healthcare experience, research experience, and/or interdisciplinary study.

A note for applicants who are foreign nationals: All foreign national applicants will see an automatic supplemental item prompting submission of a TOEFL or other English language score. If you attended an undergraduate institution where English was the language of instruction, this required item will be waived when your application is reviewed.


Dual Degree Applicants

  • MD/MA Applicants: After you have been admitted to the MD program by the Lewis Katz School of Medicine and have formally accepted your offer by matriculating into the program, you can submit your application to the MA here. Incoming M1 students are encouraged to apply by June 30, though later applications are considered.
     
  • MA or PhD Philosophy/MA Applicants: Students must apply to both programs and indicate their interest in both degrees in their application. Programs make independent admissions decisions and students must be admitted by both programs. We follow the College of Liberal Arts calendar for dual degree applicants. You can submit your application to the MA in Urban Bioethics here.
     
  • MA or PhD Sociology/MA Applicants: Students must apply to both programs and indicate their interest in both degrees in their application. Programs make independent admissions decisions and students must be admitted by both programs. We follow the College of Liberal Arts calendar for dual degree applicants. You can submit your application to the MA in Urban Bioethics here.
     
  • DPT/MA Applicants: After you have been admitted to the DPT program and are at least in Spring semester of your first year, you can submit your application to the MA in Urban Bioethics here.

Instructions for Dual Degree Applicants

Shortly after you submit the application with your demographic information, a checklist of supplemental items will be created. You will need to upload:

  • A statement of goals that addresses how you see the MA in Urban Bioethics as integral to your current education and future career goals. We ask that you speak to your experience in one of the following competencies: community engagement, healthcare experience, research experience, and/or interdisciplinary study.
  • After you have submitted your statement of goals, email Catherine Averill with permission to request your official transcriptsletters of recommendation, and current résumé or CV from your primary program. If any of these items were not submitted as part of your application to your primary program, you will need to attach them to your MA in Urban Bioethics application.

Certificate Applicants

Apply online to the Graduate Certificate in Urban Bioethics

Shortly after you submit the application with your demographic information, a checklist of supplemental items will be created. You will have the option to request 1 to 3 letters of recommendation, which you can request through the application system.

All certificate applicants are required to submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended. Electronic transcripts are preferred and can be sent to maub@temple.edu to the attention of Catherine Averill.
