About the Program
The Fels Biomedical Research Undergrad (FELS-BR-U) Program is conceived to provide opportunities in research for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds with an interest in pursuing a career in the biomedical research. Individuals from these backgrounds majoring in Biochemistry, Biology, Genomic Medicine, Neuroscience, Bioengineering, and chemistry are encouraged to apply.
The FELS-BR-U Program is a paid, year-round research-intensive program that includes (1) research training under the supervision of pre-selected faculty mentors; and (2) programming related to personal and career development. The goal is for students to develop the research and professional skills necessary to be competitive for research fellowship/programs, graduate school and the research workforce.

Eligible* undergraduate students are encouraged to apply by e-mailing a complete application to the Program Directors at fels-BR-U-applications@temple.edu.
Applicants are asked to submit a complete an Application Information Sheet along with a Resume and a current copy of their transcript.
Compensation Information:
Part-time during the Fall semester (up to $1920, for 16 weeks, hourly rate is 10$/h)#
Part-time during the Spring semester (up to $1920, for 16 weeks, hourly rate is 10$/h)#
Full-time training in the Summer (up to $6000 for 3 months, ~15 weeks, hourly rate is 10$/h)
*Eligibility:
Individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, defined as those who meet two or more of the following criteria::
- Grew up in one of the following areas:
- a U.S. rural area, as designated by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Rural Health Grants Eligibility Analyzer https://data.hrsa.gov/tools/rural-health
- OR
- HPSA Low-Income ZIPS Professional Shortage Areas (qualifying zipcodes are included in the file at https://www.qhpcertification.cms.gov/s/LowIncomeandHPSAZipCodeListingPY2020.xlsx?v=1
Only one of the two possibilities above can be used as a criterion for the disadvantaged background definition.
