Gordon Morewood, MD
Chair, Anesthesiology
Associate Professor, Clinical Anesthesiology
Anesthesiologist-in-Chief, Temple University Health System

Welcome to the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University’s Department of Anesthesiology. This is an exciting time for both Temple University Health System and our clinical specialty.

The past several years have seen major changes in our service. A rapid growth in patient volume and the evolution of interventional techniques have mandated imaginative solutions to new problems. The close coordination of care with other departments has gained increasing importance and thoughtful multidisciplinary advanced planning involving all members of the clinical care team has become the template for this work. This approach not only provides the best clinical outcomes possible but is a requirement for success as economic forces drive the US healthcare system toward maximum quality for minimum cost.

The tripartite mission of the department includes exceptional clinical care for our patients; insightful contributions to the scholarly work guiding the current evolution of healthcare systems; and an unwavering dedication to the education of our trainees.

To achieve our mission we seek to recruit exceptional candidates for our residency program, our CRNA staff, and our medical faculty. Suitable applicants will possess well-developed team working skills, a fierce dedication to clinical excellence, and a thirst for constant systems improvement. Those with previous management, entrepreneurial, or non-healthcare career experience are particularly encouraged to apply.

For our medical students we offer a comprehensive exposure to the breadth of clinical anesthetic care. Every subspecialty and clinical technique relevant to the current practice of anesthesiology finds representation within the Temple University Health System. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, during your time with us we hope you will glimpse the future of our specialty in how we organize, communicate, and coordinate.

As we look to the future we see a wealth of opportunity to enhance patient care, bring new competencies to our specialty, and improve the manner in which healthcare systems meet the needs of their patients. We invite you to come and share the view.
