Simulation

Temple - OBGYN - Residency - Simulation

The William Maul Measey Institute for Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety provides simulation tools to aid in the development of curricula that encourages residents to cultivate procedural skills and enhance their clinical decision making process. Our residents, fellows and faculty are granted 24-hour access to the simulation center including access to 3 robotic simulators (including a bedside simulator), full-access to a Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery testing center, and a simulation curriculum.

Simulation Curriculum

Simulation is an invaluable educational tool in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our program includes once monthly simulations at the SIM Center located in the brand new Medical Education and Research building across from the hospital. Examples of simulation programs include:

Obstetrics Gynecology
Vaginal delivery LEEP
Shoulder dystocia Abnormal uterine bleeding
OB Hemmorrhage Basic suture tying
OB laceration Manual vacuum aspiration
Informed consent and disclosure Energy sources
Pre-eclampsia Basics of hysteroscopy
Delivering bad news FLS training

Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) Training and Certification

Our department has developed a simulation curriculum that affords residents an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of laparoscopic surgery in a consistent, scientifically accepted format; and to test cognitive, surgical decision-making, and technical skills, all with the goal of improving the quality of patient care. The cost of the training course as well as the exam are covered by the department.
