At the Laboratory for Implementation and Dissemination Science (LIDS), people are at the center of our research. We bring partners together, listen carefully, and turn what we learn into practical, effective solutions. By sharing knowledge with the community and using data and emerging tools like artificial intelligence (AI), we strengthen our work, make informed decisions, and create meaningful, lasting impact.
Health System-Wide Impact
Within our PCORI-funded Health System and Implementation Initiatives (HSII) portfolio, LIDS focuses on strengthening the capacity of our health systems to adopt, implement, and sustain evidence-based practices. Dedicated efforts include:
Capacity building for clinical and research teams.
Pediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship initiatives that emphasize context-sensitive clinical decision-making.
The development and integration of electronic Patient-Reported Outcomes (ePROs) to elevate the patient voice in care delivery and evaluation.
Across these projects, we work alongside stakeholders to design workflows, tools, and evaluation strategies that align with local priorities and constraints.
Technology and Innovation
As part of our implementation and dissemination work, LIDS uses new AI tools to support people with type 2 diabetes between visits. These tools are designed to add to clinical care, not replace it, by offering timely, personalized support based on each person’s needs and goals. We use human-centered design to make sure these tools are easy to use, trustworthy, fair, and fit well into everyday care.
Novel Curriculum Development
We work with educators and leaders to create new training programs that meet real learning needs. One example is our Human-Centered Education in Analytics and Research (HEART) project, which developed a data literacy curriculum to help train future clinicians, researchers, and leaders. The program gives learners practical skills and uses a step-by-step approach to support growth and long-term success.
