The Center for Asian Health team believes that community engagement initiatives connect research to real life by working with local people to create health programs that fit their needs and cultures.
Our impact
- Our programs are guided by Community Advisory Boards across New York City, New Jersey, and Greater Philadelphia.
- Partnered with community-based organizations across three states to deliver health education, intervention, cancer screenings, and chronic disease prevention programs, reaching broader populations and under-resourced communities through culturally-tailored approaches.
Health education that connects
We bring health information to trusted places like grocery stores, churches, and community centers. Workshops in six Asian languages, Spanish, and English cover cancer prevention, diabetes, heart health, mental health, and how to quit smoking. Programs like Healthy Heart in Asians promote healthy cooking without losing cultural flavor, and Cancer ABC uses stories and visuals to explain health topics.
Building healthy communities
We train local staff so communities can run their own health programs that help people take charge of their own health. So far, groups are leading efforts around healthy eating, diabetes, and blood pressure checks.
