Message from Chief Residents

Thank you for your interest in the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at Temple University Hospital (TUH).

As a tertiary care hospital with one of the busiest Level I trauma centers in Philadelphia, TUH offers extensive exposure to a high volume of diverse pathologies. Collaboration with the Fox Chase Cancer Center, a nationally recognized comprehensive cancer center, enriches the learning environment with high-level cancer diagnoses, interventions and research opportunities. Through the Temple Lung Center, which boasts one of the highest lung transplant volumes nationwide, residents frequently see complex lung diseases before and after innovative treatments. Additionally, the absence of fellows ensures every resident receives early, hands-on experience with advanced imaging modalities.

Each year, our dedicated faculty and senior residents refine a comprehensive curriculum to facilitate a smooth transition into residency. A formal physics curriculum and multidisciplinary board review series ensure that each resident is exceptionally prepared for board examinations. As residents progress through training, they are expected to take on more challenging and complicated cases, ultimately achieving full independence during a robust night float system. This graded responsibility and autonomy built into our training has led to highly competitive fellowship matches and one of the highest CORE exam pass rates in the country. During the final year of residency, mini fellowship opportunities allow senior residents to tailor their training to specific interests and subspecialities. Our program has prepared countless of well-rounded graduates for successful careers in radiology, many of whom hold prestigious positions nationwide.

We have worked hard to create a supportive culture at Temple by prioritizing collaboration and collegiality. In the reading room, residents are encouraged to ask questions where senior residents and faculty are readily available to engage in discussion. Outside of work, residents frequently engage in various social activities including happy hours, group dinners, fantasy football, sports and video games. The camaraderie built inside and outside of the hospital leads to strong personal and professional relationships that extend well beyond the time at Temple.

Philadelphia provides a vibrant and enriching setting for life outside of work. With its renowned medical and scientific communities, the city offers numerous opportunities to engage with other residency programs such as events hosted by the Philadelphia Roentgen Ray Society and Philadelphia Angiography and Interventional Radiology Society. Philadelphia also boasts diverse dining options with critically acclaimed restaurants, excellent live music, and an active nightlife. Sports enthusiasts will have no problem finding entertainment as the city is home to many major sports teams including the Eagles, Phillies, 76ers, and Flyers. Lastly, Philadelphia’s affordability and reasonable cost of living will allow you to take full advantage of everything it has to offer.

We look forward to receiving your application! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Your Diagnostic Radiology Chief Residents,
