Clinical Programs

Crisis Response Center

The Crisis Response Center (CRC) is an expanded psychiatric emergency service. Located on the Episcopal Campus of Temple University Hosptial, the CRC is one of five such centers in the City of Philadelphia. The CRC serves individuals in crisis with psychiatric and/or substance-related conditions.

The CRC is staffed by psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, psychiatric nurses, crisis technicians, clinical social workers, and security personnel.  Many staff members are fluent in other languages and the CRC has access to interpreters.

Neuropsychological Assessment

The Neuropsychological Assessment Service is an integral part of the Department's focus on brain-behavior relationships. Comprehensive assessment and diagnostic services are available to patients affected by a variety of medical or psychiatric disorders that may influence brain function. Examples of these conditions include:

  • Cerebrovascular disease and stroke
  • Head injury
  • Dementia
  • Intelligence testing
  • Attention deficit disorder
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Systemic and genetic disorders
  • Forensic evaluations

Evaluation procedures typically consist of a clinical interview, behavioral observations, and the administration of a standardized test battery. The test battery assesses many areas that may include: intellectual functioning, attention and concentration, memory and learning abilities, language functions, complex sensory-motor function, academic skills, problem solving skills, and personality functioning.

Outpatient Adult Psychiatry

The Outpatient Psychiatry Department is staffed by psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatry residents, social work interns and nursing interns who serve patients with a wide range of psychiatric conditions.

This clinic provides services including:

  • Medication management
  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Group psychotherapy
  • Multidisciplinary intake team evaluations
  • Psychological testing
  • Neuropsychological testing
  • Consultation to outpatient medical services

ADHD Child, Adolescent, Adult Assessment

Comprehensive evaluations of children, adolescent and adults are offered as well as ongoing treatment where appropriate. Psychiatric and psychological evaluations are offered.

Consultation and Liaison

This service provides psychiatric assessments for the varied medical and surgical services at Temple University Hospital. It also provides brief supportive psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and pharmacotherapy. The C&L service is staffed by bi-lingual and bi-cultural psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, and medical students.

Acute Inpatient Psychiatry

The inpatient psychiatric service has 74 acute beds and serves a wide variety of psychiatric disorders. Episcopal Hospital has been recognized repeatedly with the Press Ganey Compass Award for extraordinary success in patient satisfaction, as well as the Studer Fire Starter Award for excellence.

Extended Acute Inpatient Psychiatry

There are 44 extended acute beds at Episcopal Hospital.  The treatment approach is eclectic and patient satisfaction scores are high.
