The Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM) has once again been ranked as one of the top research-oriented medical schools in the nation on the 2017 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools list.

The Katz School of Medicine earned the second-highest ranking of all medical schools in Philadelphia and the third-highest ranking in all of Pennsylvania. The U.S. News rankings are based on a multifactorial assessment of 140 allopathic and 30 osteopathic medical schools across the United States.

LKSOM earned its ranking by exhibiting excellence in a number of measures, including reputation among peer institutions and residency program directors, student admission selectivity, research activity and faculty resources. The school attracted more than $92 million in National Institutes of Health grants in 2015, an average of $158,200 per faculty member.

“The Lewis Katz School of Medicine takes great pride in this recognition as a national leader in basic science and clinical research,” says Larry R. Kaiser, MD, FACS, Dean of LKSOM, President and CEO of Temple University Health System and Senior Executive Vice President for Health Affairs at Temple University. “As the school continues to dramatically expand the scope of its research enterprise, our world-class faculty members are setting the pace in key areas of investigation and pushing the boundaries of science to advance patient care.”
