Dr. Sam S. H. Wu Named Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Temple
Sam S. H. Wu, MD, MA, MPH, MBA, has been named Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and Professor of Clinical Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM), and Chief of PM&R at Temple University Hospital, effective February 1, 2020.
Dr. Wu comes to Temple from Geisinger, where he served as Chair of PM&R and Director of the Medical Spine Program at Geisinger Musculoskeletal Institute, Physiatrist-in-Chief for Geisinger Health System, and Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Department of Clinical Sciences (Education) at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
After earning his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Wu completed a combined residency in Pediatrics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at NYU Medical Center. He also holds a Masters in Public Health from Boston University School of Public Health, and an MBA (General Management) from Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
Dr. Wu has held academic appointments at NYU School of Medicine, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, Perelman School of Medicine at University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School, Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. His hospital appointments have included St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children, NYU Medical Center Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, ICD-International Center for the Disabled, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, University of Pennsylvania Health System (where he was Medical Director of Penn Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine, as well as its Stroke Program), Children’s Specialized Hospital, and Geisinger Health System.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Among his other honors are an Award for Higher Level of Care and Patient Satisfaction from Geisinger HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital; an Award for Distinguished Service, Leadership, and Guidance to the American Academy of PM&R as Member-At-Large; and an Award for Outstanding Contribution as President of the New York Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He has held leadership positions at several organizations including the Association of Academic Physiatrists, American Academy of Thermology, International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, and Delaware Valley Stroke Council.
