Jack Ludmir, MD, FACOG, has been appointed Chief Physician Executive of the new Temple Women’s Hospital campus and Clinical Professor (Adjunct) in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and
Reproductive Sciences at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.
“Dr. Ludmir is an internationally known physician leader with strong ties to the North Philadelphia community and is exceptionally well-qualified to lead the diverse array of clinical programs at our new Temple Women’s Hospital campus,” said Michael A. Young, MHA, FACHE, President & CEO of Temple Health. “His leadership experience in three prominent academic medical centers makes him ideally suited to his new role.”

Goldberg, MD, FACS, Dean of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine. “He has been a force for change throughout his career, creating bridges among partnering institutions, physicians and care teams, residents and medical students, and community-based organizations to reduce maternal morbidity in high-risk populations and advance health equity and access to women’s healthcare.”
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Peru, Dr. Ludmir’s professional life has been dedicated to improving the health of women and children both locally and globally. In his new role, he will work with Enrique Hernandez, MD, FACOG, FACS, Professor and Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Temple Health, to plan and oversee clinical services provided by the talented clinical teams at Temple Women’s Hospital.
Dr. Ludmir earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology from University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, after which he completed his Obstetrics & Gynecology residency and Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School and Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston before returning to Philadelphia to serve for 17 years as Professor and Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital in the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
Most recently, he has been Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Population Health, and also served as Executive Vice President for Equity and Associate Provost for Community Engagement at Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health. He was also Executive Director of the Philadelphia Collaborative for Health Equity at Jefferson. As a Lewis Katz School of Medicine alum, Dr. Ludmir’s new appointment brings him full circle in his professional career.
At the national level, Dr. Ludmir served as Chair of the Maternal Child Health Council for the American Hospital Association. As the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) liaison for Latin America, he worked in several countries to improve maternal healthcare and reduce maternal mortality with an emphasis on cultural competence, dignity, and respect. As a maternal fetal medicine specialist, Dr. Ludmir’s research interests focus on prematurity prevention and management of preeclampsia/eclampsia, both of which are common complications in obstetrics and responsible for significant maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.
Dr. Ludmir co-founded Puentes de Salud, and started Latina Community Health Services and the Jefferson Latina Clinic to provide care to uninsured vulnerable pregnant women. For his efforts he has been recognized by ACOG with the Peter Hollis Community Service Award, the Roosevelt Award from March of Dimes for service to humanity, the Spirit of Motherhood Award from Maternity Care Coalition, the Hispanic Heritage Award from El Día and honorary degrees from several universities in Latin America.
