Student Profile: Jared Katz

The School of Medicine’s one-year Post Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program could not have been more perfect for Jared M. Katz. While attending high school in the Bronx, Katz became interested in pursuing a career in science that had a meaningful social impact. As an undergraduate at Johns Hopkins University, he considered pursuing a pre-med track, but instead majored in public health studies with a minor in entrepreneurship & management.

“I knew if I was going to pursue pre-med, I had to be fully committed, and during my college years I just wasn’t ready to make that important commitment,” he says.

Instead, after he graduated, he worked for two years as a senior research analyst at the Lewin Group, assisting the Federal Government with the implementation, evaluation and monitoring of federal healthcare programs. “Ultimately,” says Katz, “that research brought me back to the realization that medicine was the path I wanted to take.

“The Post-Bac Program was certainly challenging,” adds the third-year student. “But it was incredibly helpful and really gave me a leg up. I met a lot of professors, I became familiar with the health sciences campus and I really felt well-prepared and equipped to matriculate to Temple’s Lewis Katz School of Medicine.”
