Temple Health Magazine Earns National Awards

News April 17, 2015

Temple Health Magazine earned top honors at the 2015 Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) National Professional Development Conference for Institutional Advancement, in Atlanta – winning the 2015 Group on Institutional Advancement (GIA) Award for Excellence in the External Audience Periodical category. The annual AAMC GIA Awards for Excellence recognize the most creative and effective approaches used to promote academic medicine in the U.S. through alumni, communications, development, marketing, and public affairs programs.

Judges praised several aspects of Temple Health Magazine in their comments: “Well written—superbly designed. Layout, photos and graphics are second to none. Each story, both visually and verbally, invited me right in.”

“To be recognized nationally—for creating a magazine that helps Temple to be recognized nationally—is as good as it gets!” said Giselle Zayon, the magazine’s senior editor. “In a career of 30 years, I’ve never seen an avalanche of fan mail like the one triggered by this new magazine. When calls and emails came in from other planets, I knew we were onto something,” Ms. Zayon noted. “The magazine has spunk and moxie. Just like Temple!”

Ms. Zayon also earned an Honorable Mention in General Staff Writing category of The Robert G. Fenley Writing Awards, for her article, “When Death Begets Life,” which was published in the Winter 2014 issue of Temple Health Magazine.
