News March 18, 2014

Temple Health hosted a Town Hall event on March 13 with Philadelphia City Council President Darrell L. Clarke and Councilwoman Cindy Bass to inform community members about how they can sign up for health coverage on the health insurance exchange set up by the Affordable Care Act, and to encourage them to enroll by the March 31 deadline.

Larry Kaiser, MD, FACS, President/CEO and Dean of Temple's healthcare enterprise, kicked off the event at the Student Faculty Center on Temple's Health Sciences campus by acknowledging the efforts of Council President Clarke and Councilwoman Bass in helping to ensure their constituents’ access to healthcare.

"Whether we at Temple are making improvements to our campus, obtaining support for adequate funding, or partnering in health outreach, they have worked tirelessly with us to ensure that everyone living in our communities has access to quality healthcare," he said.

Clarke thanked Temple Health for working in partnership with the city on many issues over the years, and for always being ready to help its community. He and Councilwoman Bass affirmed their commitment to helping connect North Philadelphia families with the healthcare resources they need.

Anita Colon, Director of Financial Services for Temple University Health System, explained how her team can help connect community members with available insurance coverage. Following the Town Hall, financial counselors from Temple University Hospital met individually with community members to guide them through the actual enrollment process.
