Temple University Hospital’s Acres of Diamonds Gala Sets New Records

News May 10, 2017

Temple University Hospital (TUH) celebrated its Annual Acres of Diamonds Gala — one of the oldest black tie charity events in the city — on Saturday, April 29 at the Please Touch Museum. With 1,100 people in attendance, the highest attendance ever, the Gala set a new fundraising record, raising more than $1.4M for the Hospital, which benefits the patients it serves.

Founded in 1892 on the principle that quality healthcare should be available for everyone, Temple University Hospital is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. Physicians, nurses, staff, supporters and friends came together to celebrate this momentous milestone and donated more than $405K during a special pop-up appeal for the hospital’s Women and Infants Division.

This year’s Gala was emceed by Lauren Hart, under a custom-built tent on the museum grounds, and featured a spectacular private concert by Philadelphia legend Patti LaBelle. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the enhancement of patient and family spaces and rooms in order to sustain a patient-centric environment commensurate with TUH’s high-value delivery of care.

This year’s Diamond Award Honoree was Richard M. Englert, EdD, president of Temple University, for his unwavering commitment to the Temple community.

“The Gala was a tremendous success, thanks to our supporters, sponsors and employees,” stated Larry R. Kaiser, MD, FACS, the Lewis Katz Dean at the School of Medicine, President and CEO of Temple University Health System, and Senior Executive Vice President for Health Affairs for Temple University. “This is a very special year for TUH, as we celebrate 125 years of life-saving service and commitment to the Philadelphia community and beyond.”
