Gerard Criner, MD, FACP, FACCP Named to International Organization’s Board of Directors

Internationally respected pulmonologist Gerard Criner, MD, FACP, FACCP, Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Temple University Hospital, and Director of the Temple Lung Center, was recently named to the Board of Directors for the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD). He is one of only two American physicians to serve on the Board.
 
Formed in 1998, GOLD is an international organization that develops global management strategies and standards for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The organization serves to increase awareness of COPD among the medical community, public health officials and the general public; improve the diagnosis and management of COPD; and stimulate research on the prevention and management of the disease. GOLD is also committed to the development and implementation of recommendations for COPD management strategies in a variety of healthcare settings – most specifically primary care and family practices.
 
An internationally-recognized researcher who is regularly published in peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Criner is a frequent presenter at academic conferences around the globe. As principal investigator and project leader of several multimillion-dollar NIH grants, he has overseen numerous advances in pulmonary and critical care research over the last two decades. He is recognized worldwide as an expert on COPD and the management of intensive-care unit patients.
