Dr. Won Han Appointed Executive Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine at Temple

Won Han, MD, has been appointed Associate Professor of Medicine and Executive Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine, effective October 1, 2014. As Executive Vice Chair, Dr. Han will provide administrative oversight to ensure the effective operation of clinical services in the Department of Medicine.

Dr. Han specializes in acute kidney injury, lupus nephritis and ANCA-associated vasculitis. His research interests include acute kidney injury, artificial kidney, and biomarkers for various kidney diseases.

“Having spent a major part of my life in Philadelphia and as an alumnus of Temple’s School of Medicine, I am thrilled to be back,” said Dr. Han. “I am honored to be part of one of the finest academic health centers in the nation with a great reputation for academic excellence and compassionate patient care.”

“Dr. Han is a tremendous asset to the Department of Medicine and the Division of Nephrology,” said Joseph Cheung, MD, PhD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine. “His role will be multifaceted, involving everything from improving access to care to ensuring compliance with all Temple policies to developing new programs and innovative ways to provide care in today’s ever-changing healthcare environment. Because he is an alumnus of Temple University School of Medicine, he already knows a great deal about our health system. This first-hand knowledge reduces his learning curve substantially.”

Dr. Han earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. He completed an Internal Medicine residency at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and a clinical and research Nephrology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.

Dr. Han joins Temple from Jefferson University Hospital where he was an attending nephrologist and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson Medical College. He was previously an attending physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. Han serves as peer reviewer for several medical journals, including Kidney International and Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
