About

The Section of Rheumatology provides care for patients with autoimmune and musculoskeletal disorders. Its mission is also to educate students, residents, and fellows in the rheumatic diseases, and to advance the field by providing new knowledge through research.

Temple’s Rheumatology Section is one of the oldest in the United States. It was founded in the 1930s by John Lansbury, a pioneer in quantitating disease activity and a master clinician. Throughout the years, several hundred physicians trained at Temple have gone on to productive careers in clinical rheumatology, research, including a number of leaders in the field. The program’s strength draws from its outstanding facuty, from the breadth and depth of patients who come to Temple for care, and from close collaborative relations with clinical and basic scientists.
