Early one morning, as I neared the end of my overnight shift, and the completion of my OB Anesthesia rotation — 2 weeks straight of 13-14-hour night shifts — I found myself reflecting on the patients I had treated, the care I provided, and most importantly, how it had changed me. I suddenly felt the overwhelming need to write what I was feeling.
Human anguish is my enemy.
Here, the patients don’t need a Doctor.
I, am a soldier.
I fight not with violence,
But with Love.
I take the field not with my body;
But with my heart, and my mind.
I can win battles with compassion and resiliency,
But the war can only be won with more soldiers.
