Career & Professional Development

At Temple, we are dedicated to helping our residents achieve their long-term goals – whatever that may be. Many residents enter knowing fellowship is the next step in their path, while others want to pursue a career in Hospital Medicine or Primary Care. Some are undecided or even change their mind during residency. We are here to support everyone on their journey.

One of the most important ways of figuring out what path is right for you is through exposure. During your training, you have the opportunity to rotate through a variety of core rotations, ambulatory clinics, and sub-specialty electives, providing you with a great mix of inpatient and outpatient experiences. Over 3 years, we supplement your clinical experiences with a regular speaker series, Career Scripts, where internists and subspecialists share their career paths in areas such as private practice, government, industry, and public health.

For those interested in pursuing a fellowship, we provide:

  • Roadmap charting a general timeline of how & when to apply to fellowship
  • General application info sessions led by our PD and APDs
  • Subspecialty application info sessions led by fellowship program directors
  • Guidebook to Applying to Fellowships addressing applications, interviews, etc
  • Mock Interview Program with volunteer faculty members

For those interested in pursuing jobs, we provide:

  • Roadmap charting a general timeline of how & when to apply for jobs
  • Speaker series on topics including Launching a Job Search, CV & Cover Letter Best Practices, Contracts & Negotiations
  • Guidebook to Finding a Job addressing Job Search, CVs, Cover Letters, etc.
