Curriculum

Experiential Curriculum (for Didactic Curriculum, see “Conferences”)

Each year consists of 13 separate four-week rotations. Central to the curriculum is the expectation to provide comprehensive training in the areas fundamental to the specialty of emergency medicine. Furthermore, emergency medicine residents will develop an understanding and awareness of the major disciplines with which the emergency medicine specialist must interface. The components of the experiential curriculum are listed below.

PGY-1
Emergency Department - TUH - 28 weeks

Pediatric Emergency Dept. - CHOP - 4 weeks

PICU - St. Christopher's - 4 weeks (2 weeks of each)

Obstetrics and Gynecology/EMS - 4 weeks

Trauma - 4 weeks

Medical Intensive Care Unit - 4 weeks

Anesthesia/Ultrasound - 4 weeks (anesthesia morning/US afternoon)

PGY-2

Emergency Department - TUH - 26 weeks

Emergency Department - TUH – Jeanes Campus - 4 weeks

Pediatric Emergency Department - CHOP - 4 weeks

Surgical ICU - 4 weeks

Burn ICU - 4 weeks

Trauma - 4 weeks

Emergency Department - TUH – Episcopal Campus - 4 weeks

Elective - 2 weeks

PGY-3

Emergency Department - TUH - 30 weeks

Emergency Department - TUH – Jeanes Campus - 4 weeks

Pediatric Emergency Department - CHOP - 4 weeks

Temple ED Administration/Teaching - 4 weeks

Medical ICU - 4 weeks

Elective - 2 weeks

Emergency Department - TUH – Episcopal Campus - 4 weeks

* Throughout the three years, residents will spend time each month at St. Christopher’s Hospital during their Temple ED blocks. This will amount to roughly 1.25 months of clinical time in the St. Chris Emergency Department.
