Chief, Section of Hospital Medicine
Associate Professor, Clinical Medicine

The Section of Hospital Medicine provides high-quality inpatient medical care in North Philadelphia. The section is comprised of physician faculty members, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, and together, they care for nearly two hundred medically complex patients on a daily basis across sites at Temple University Hospital and Episcopal Hospital. The section values diversity, as well as the provision of compassionate, patient and family-centered care throughout all of our services.

In addition to our clinical mission, physicians in the section serve as clerkship directors, residency core faculty and program leadership, and clinical educators throughout the span of the undergraduate medical curriculum. Hospitalists lead and participate in resident morning report, journal club, clinical-pathologic conference, and departmental morbidity and mortality conference, and serve as mentors and advisors within the internal medicine residency.

Hospitalist physicians take leadership roles in many quality improvement efforts throughout Temple University Hospital. Hospitalists work in diverse areas, including clinical informatics, medical ethics, patient throughput, care transitions and readmissions, infection control and sepsis management, glycemic control, and geriatric fracture care. Many members of the section have obtained MBA degrees through the Fox School of Business and focus on meeting the unique economic challenges of a competitive healthcare marketplace.

The Section of Hospital Medicine is growing, but its core strength lies in outstanding faculty and a team-based approach to patient care and education.
