Education and Evaluation

Central to the mission of this subcommittee is the recognition that justice and equity in education is requisite for a healthy training and working environment for students, residents, fellows, current and future faculty. In pursuit of this goal, we plan to:

1. promote education programming and mentorship to support a diverse cohort of medical students to enter a career in surgery
2. assess and improve upon the current state of surgical trainee evaluation to eliminate the impact of implicit and explicit bias
3. evaluate the surgical conference content to ensure inclusion of education on cultural competency, structural racism and implicit bias
4. provide ongoing faculty development sessions in topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion
