Katz service transcends geography. For 125 years, we have carried our mission from Philadelphia neighborhoods to communities across the country and around the world. We serve where the need is great, strengthening care, research, education, and access in partnership with the communities we serve. Health justice is in our roots.

That commitment takes many forms: community clinics and health education, global and rural health initiatives, advocacy, disaster response, and programs addressing food insecurity, housing instability, chronic disease, and other drivers of health. Our students carry the work forward through community-based learning and service grounded in partnership and sustained engagement.

Katz’s influence also extends across medicine itself. Faculty and alumni have led major professional organizations, shaped standards and curricula, advanced military and veterans’ health, and trained generations of physicians and scientists nationwide.

“When I left Temple in 1969 with my MD degree, I had earned a social conscience as well,” said A. Frederick Hartman, MD ’69, MPH, one of many alumni whose careers have carried that commitment around the world.
