The primary mission of the Department of Physiology is to provide excellent educational experiences for our students and to conduct biomedical research that will contribute to advancing medical science.
In addition to advancing scientific discovery, our research programs are an important part of the educational process. All research faculty in the department participate in the biomedical sciences graduate program preparing graduate students for careers in academia, industry and government.
Our educational programs for professional students (medical, dental, podiatric and physical therapy) provide an essential background in physiology for clinical activities.
Members of the department are actively engaged in research projects in the area of education, cardiovascular physiology, cell signaling, immunology, neurophysiology and pulmonary physiology.
