The American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) is the only true specialty society in Emergency Medicine today. As an organization, it believes achievement of board certification represents the only acceptable method of attaining recognition as a specialist in Emergency Medicine.

American Board of Emergency Medicine

The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) is one of 24 medical specialty certification boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. ABEM certifies emergency physicians who meet its educational, professional standing, and examination standards. ABEM certification is sought and earned by emergency physicians on a voluntary basis; ABEM is not a membership association.

American College of Emergency Physicians

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) is the national association for emergency physicians.

Emergency Medicine Residents' Association

EMRA promotes excellence in patient care through the education and development of emergency medicine residency trained physicians.
