Temple Hosts Symposium on Orthopaedic Trauma

For two days in mid-June, Temple University School of Medicine (TUSM) was the place to be for healthcare professionals looking to learn more about the repair of fractures and other traumatic orthopaedic injuries. The scene was the 7th Annual Philadelphia Orthopaedic Trauma Symposium, a 12-credit CME conference co-hosted by TUSM and Trauma Orthopaedists of the Delaware Valley.

The conference gave nearly 150 orthopaedic surgeons, residents, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants the opportunity to examine emerging technologies and methodologies in orthopaedic fracture management, discuss the latest evidence for the use of locked plates and related devices in orthopaedic trauma care, and learn how to best apply minimally-invasive fracture care.   

“This symposium featured faculty from institutions from throughout the region and attendees from beyond the region,” said event co-chair Saqib Rehman, MD, Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at TUSM and Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Temple University Hospital. “During the two days, participants attended hands-on skills workshops, small group discussions, research poster presentations, and technical exhibits covering cutting-edge topics in orthopaedic trauma.

“Events such as this showcase Temple’s commitment to educating and training surgeons and their care teams in the latest, evidence-based procedures and treatments to preserve the musculoskeletal function and well-being of trauma patients,” he added.
