Kevin Henry, PhD – Assistant Professor of Geography and Urban Studies
Dr. Kevin Henry, PhD is an assistant professor in the Department of Geography and Urban Studies at Temple University and a member of Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Cancer Prevention and Control program. His research focuses on the application and development of geospatial methods and tools for investigating associations between health outcomes (e.g., cancer, ALS, obesity, tuberculosis infection) and neighborhood environments and access to care. He has led several research studies that utilized cancer registry and health survey data to describe racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, and geographic disparities in cancer incidence, treatment, survival and screening. This work employed multi-level models, geographic clustering and the development of methods to impute missing geocodes (geographical-imputation) to avoid geographic selection bias. Additionally, he served as co-investigator on a research grant funded by Susan G. Komen in collaboration with the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR), which examined whether geographic barriers to care impact breast cancer stage and treatment options. Dr. Henry’s new research interests include the use of linked temporal administrative databases and residential histories to understand how environmental exposures through the life course affect breast cancer risk, and the role of daily activity spaces/paths and time demands on breast and colorectal cancer screening adherence and treatment decisions. You can see his selected publications here .
Dr. Henry obtained his doctorate in Geography from McGill University, Montreal and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in epidemiology at McGill University Health Centre. He previously served on the faculty at the Rutgers University School of Public Health (Department of Epidemiology), University of Utah (Department of Geography), Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (Department of Radiation Oncology, Cancer Institute of New Jersey). Dr. Henry also served as the Associate Director for the New Jersey State Cancer Registry from 2008-2011 where he served as Site Principal Investigator (PI) on several NIH funded grants.
