The overarching mission of the Department of Clinical Sciences (DCS) is to serve as an academic, career-development and cultural home for clinical investigators within the School of Medicine. The specific goals of the department are:
- To provide expertise, resources and infrastructure to promote the highest quality clinical research across the institution
- To accelerate and enhance the education and career development of clinical researchers
- To promote interdisciplinary interactions and cross-fertilization of scientific endeavors leading to new opportunities for innovative studies in urban clinical research.
Scientific leadership and expertise related to study development, research methodologies, risk assessment, data management, biostatistical considerations, and safety, regulatory and ethical concerns represent substantive issues in the conduct of rigorous and successful clinical studies. The DCS provides a group of experienced clinical investigators, research services and technical resources to expand the current clinical research capabilities at LKSOM in order to support an environment in which investigators can pursue safe, efficient and cutting-edge clinical research.
