Student-Run Clinic

THRIVE clinic is a student-run bridge clinic that seeks to expand the capacity for health in the North Philadelphia community by working with individuals in the community on the following pillars of health:

I. KNOWLEDGE

The clinic seeks to promote knowledge through clear messaging and teaching tools to answer patient questions and educate patients on their own health and wellness.

II. SELF-EFFICACY

Self-efficacy of every patient will be bolstered by listening to patients’ own goals and connecting them with appropriate resources.

III. MOTIVATION

Students and faculty preceptors will provide motivation for healthy life practices.

IV. HEALTH

Health will be ameliorated with appropriate, acute care, over the counter medications, health and wellness packets, and connections to further resources

V. ACCESSIBILITY OF CARE

The clinic will operate in an accessible manner and will be placed in a location(s) that are convenient for community members; through these five pillars of health, the Thrive Clinic aims to protect and sustain the health of patients in North Philadelphia.

Finally, the clinic is a powerful tool to educate and engage future generations of medical students, providing students with the opportunity to learn from the resiliency and lived experiences of the patients at the clinic. Compassion, empathy and exposure in learning will provide students with a hands-on education of the social determinants of health, clinical skills and cultural competencies.
